 Scholarships 2007/2008

Current College Scholarships

As smaller local scholarship information comes into the guidance office, it will be posted on this page and in the Guidance Resource Area, located in the outer area of the Health Suite. Keep in mind, the largest source of scholarship money comes from the colleges you are applying to. Some colleges will have a separate form for their scholarships and some will want your regular application submitted much earlier than usual. It is up to you to be aware of these dates and deadlines.

In addition to this, every student is encouraged to apply for financial aid through the US Government. This is done after Jan 1st, each year for the following fall admission, by filling out the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) form. All colleges, both public and private, require the FAFSA form. FAFSA worksheets are available online. The big push is to apply online rather than using the paper form. When accessing the FAFSA form online, you should check the date. The form you should use is the one that is available January 1st of your Senior year. (i.e., The graduating class of 2009 should use the 2009 - 2010 FAFSA form.) The form can also be accessed on our "Guidance Links" page. Some private colleges also require the PROFILE form. You can register for your personalized PROFILE application at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp .

Many eager, organized and persistent students apply for a number of smaller local scholarships. This information gets mailed to the guidance office and can also be found online through scholarship search engines. A general rule of thumb: Never pay for scholarship information; you should not have to pay to get money awarded to you. Some scholarships will be in the form of a contest; i.e., essay contest; others will be awarding characteristics like leadership and academic excellence. The more of these smaller scholarships you apply for, the better your chances are of winning.

Some of these scholarships are offered to underclassmen, as well. You can check their website or our Scholarship Board in the Guidance Resource Area, located in the outer area of the Health Suite.
