• Sponsored by the National Honor Society begins Tuesday, May 27th
• N.H.S. students and teachers will be available to help students get ready for their final exams
• Sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m.; students should come to Room 202 immediately after school
• Students should bring their books, notes and study guides
• Light refreshments will be be served

Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. --condensed from www.nhs.us The Archbishop Spalding chapter of the NHS formally recognizes those students who not only excel in the classroom, but are also role models and active participants in the Spalding community and beyond. Membership Selection Students are selected for membership in the National Honor Society by a Faculty Council based on their demonstrated outstanding performance in all four criteria of scholarship, leadership, service and character. To qualify for consideration by this faculty council, a student must: - be a Junior or Senior - have a cumulative weighted/unweighted GPA of 3.500 - have attended ASHS for at least one semester prior to the induction date - have completed measurable service to school and/or community (minimum of 20 hours) - have demonstrated involvement and leadership in school activities - have his or her disciplinary record thoroughly reviewed by the Faculty Council Member Obligations Once a student is selected for membership in NHS, his or her scholarship and service continues. The primary duty of the Spalding chapter of the NHS is the "Students Helping Students" program.  Tutoring sessions are held on Mondays and Thursdays after school in room 116. At S.H.S. sessions, NHS students offer tutoring in all subjects, free of charge, to any student who asks for help.  Members are also expected to participate in "Mid-Term Madness" and "Final Frenzy."  NHS members also serve as student ambassadors at events such as Open House, Back to School Night, Freshman Registration and the annual spring fundraiswer.
